Search for the Best Engineering Colleges in India

With more than 3500 engineering colleges in India, choosing for the best suitable one is  a daunting task to an aspiring candidate. There are IITs, Govt. Universities, Private Universities, NITs and other engineering colleges which offer engineering education in India. Some of the important parameters  to consider while choosing an institute are: qualification of the teaching faculty, laboratory and other infrastructure, learning resource facility, course curriculum, professionalism in management of the institute and fast adaption to new and emerging technology, promotion for entrepreneurship and startup initiatives, placement statistics and alumni status.

High qualification of the teaching faculty ensures that the students gets high quality education with strong fundamental concepts. Availability of good laboratory equipment is an important aspect of the engineering education as the practical sessions equips an engineering student to face and solve real and practical engineering problems. Learning resources available in terms of text books, reference books, multimedia and scientific journals equips an engineering student with easily accessible knowledge base. As the technology is changing very fast, latest technology needs to be adopted and incorporated into the course curriculum in order to keep in pace with the global development. An experienced and professional management adopts new and improved methodologies in education from time to time. Placement statistics of an institute and the status alumni working in reputed organizations gives a hint to the level of quality of education delivered by an institute. During this pandemic season, it is also important to consider safe environment for education, effective online classes and assessment during a lock down period.

Launched in 2015, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the MHRD is a Government initiative to rank educational institutes in India. The NIRF ranking framework is based on five parameters namely, “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception.” The NIRF website (https://www.nirfindia.org) lists the top 300 engineering colleges based on the above framework. Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) is another ranking frameworkby Ministry of Education on indicators related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties (https://www.ariia.gov.in/). There are also other private agencies such as India Today which ranks educational institutes in India with a set criteria.

The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) assess the qualitative competence of the programs offered by educational institution in engineering and technology (https://www.nbaind.org). The NBA conducts evaluation of programs of technical institutes on the basis of institutional missions and objectives, organization and governance, infrastructure facilities, quality of teaching and learning, curriculum design and review, support services (library, laboratory, instrumentation, computer facilities, etc.). The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) conducts assessment and accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions  (http://naac.gov.in/).  NAAC evaluates the institutions for its conformance to the standards of quality in terms of its performance related to the educational processes and outcomes, curriculum coverage, teaching-learning processes, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organization, governance, financial well being and student services.
